INGREDIENTS:

For 8 people

METHOD:

  1. Saute the chopped onions  in olive oil and stir continuously.
  2. Add salt, pepper and tomatoes.
  3. Simmer for about 30 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  4. Boil the macaroni in plenty of salted water.
  5. Drain and sprinkle with half of cheese.

Prepare the béchamel.

  1. Melt the butter and add the flour.
  2. Stir and reduce heat.
  3. Add the milk little by little, stirring continuously

until the mixture becomes a cream.

  1. Add salt , pepper and  nutmeg.
  2. Remove from heat.
  3. Add the egg and stir vigorously.
  4. Put remaining cheese into the sauce.
  5. In a lightly greased ovenproof dish put macaroni.
  6. On top lay the mince.
  7. Pour sauce on top and spread evenly.
  8. Sprinkle with a little cheese.
  9. Bake Pastichio  for 45 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Let it rest for ½ hour before you serve.
